Project Process Planning and Scheduling
This section described the various planning and scheduling functions performed in the Project Planning and Processing page.
Create Processes
The Process Channel field is set as a default from the component. It can be checked and changed in the Project Planning and Processing page. If the Process Channel is not set, the project line is not considered for process planning.
If a WBS line includes a stock item, no planning is needed.
To create the planning process
- Select the lines to include and then choose the Plan action on the Process Planning menu.
- In the dialog box, choose the OK button to process the selected lines. The process-related fields are updated accordingly.
- On the Process Planning menu, choose the Per Block action to display all processes in one view (relating to the current position).
The initial planning run can be viewed from the Planning Processes page. On the Process Planning menu, choose Planning Setup to open the Project Planning Setup page, which is created automatically using the default settings.
By creating the processes, the default data sets are processed based on the following Process Channel:
- <blank> - the project line is not considered for process planning.
- Work – the work and unit of the project line are calculated.
- Lead time – the duration will be calculated using the component lead time.
- Structure - the project line is used for information without work and duration or summary processes.
Missing process channel defaults can be entered directly in the Planning Processes page.
On the New menu, choose the New Process action to define multiple processes for each project line, such as:
- Split budgeted positions into sub-processes
- Create milestones
- Include customer processes in the schedule
Process Logic
Processes can be linked by using predecessors based on the Process IDs. To recalculate IDs that are out of order due to inserted processes, choose Structure > New Process ID on the Actions menu.
In the Predecessor ID field, type the Process ID(s) to create the link between process lines. Use the semi-colon (;) to enter multiple process IDs per line. The Predecessor and Follower fields are automatically updated to indicate the hierarchical link.
Constraint Types affect the calculation of the start and end dates for the planning process. The options are:
- ASAP – As soon as possible (the follower is planned directly behind the predecessor)
- ALAP – As late as possible (the predecessor is planned in front of the follower)
- MSOn / MFOn – Must start on / Must finish on
- SNET / SNLT – Start not earlier than / Start not later than
- FNET / FNLT – Finish not earlier than / Finish not later than
