Fast Calculation
During the bidding process, it is faster to provide general costs for wages, materials, etc. than to enter estimates with specific resources and items. To assist with this, the Fast Calculation includes fields for each Cost Type (Wages, Material, External Services, Equipment, and Other Costs). When values are entered into these fields, new lines are created automatically in the BoQ Budget Calculation as general components with the entered costs. The component number is taken from the Jobs Setup where General Components can be assigned for the Fast Calculation functionality.
Therefore, with the Fast Calculation, additional Job Lines do not need to be created manually in the BoQ Budget Calculation for any anticipated costs when responding to a quote request.

The Fast Calculation page also includes the Long Text and Base Calculation FactBoxes.
If you have the integration with Advanced Construction Suite (ACS), the Document Box FactBox is available. For more information, see Integration of COSMO Document Management System.
Data Entry in Fast Calculation
- In a row with BoQ Position Type = Normal, values are entered for Wage Quantity and Wage Unit Cost (LCY), respectively. The Wage Charge % field is populated based on the Extra Charge % entered in the Job Charges page for Calculation Group = WAGES. The Wages Unit Price (LCY) field is calculated based on these values.
- Material values are entered in the Material Direct Unit Cost (LCY) and Material Charge % fields, respectively. The Material Unit Price (LCY) field is calculated based on these values.
- On the Related menu, choose Line > Position Components to view the components that have been created by entering data into the wage and material fields. Close the Position Components page.
- In the next row, values are entered again for wages and materials.
- To review the changes in the BoQ Position List, close the Fast Calculation page.
- Notice the following on the calculated lines:
- BoQ Positions with Unit Price (LCY) <>0 are no longer formatted in red
- Calculation Status is set to Progress
- Pricing transferred to the Unit Price (LCY) and Total Price Budget (LCY) fields
- Additionally, the Total Price Budget (LCY) field on the relevant rollup positions contain the total of the sub-positions.
- On the Views menu, choose Budget Calculation to see how values entered in the Fast Calculation have been automatically entered in that page.
Note
If calculating begins in the Fast Calculation page, further calculation processing can continue in the BoQ Budget Calculation page, but not vice versa. Therefore, once calculations start in the BoQ Budget Calculation, the Fast Calculation cannot be used.
- In the BoQ Position List page, select the calculated positions, and then choose the Change Calculation Status action on the Home menu. The Calculation Status dialog box opens.
- The Calculation Status dialog box indicates that the selected positions are to be set to Calculated; choose the OK button to change the status on the rows to Calculated.
- The Change Calculation Status function can be used to change a status from Calculated back to In Progress or (Empty).
- Close the BoQ Position List page.
